By now, the story of how CFDA member and renowned designer Clare Vivier started her eponymous line of goes-with-everything handbags and accessories is well known. (She was looking for a chic laptop case, couldn’t find one she liked, and made one herself.) Ten years later, she has eight brick and mortar Clare V locations; one is thankfully a quick walk from The Wheeler.

On a recent visit to the beautifully curated shop, we talked to Clare among gorgeous leather totes, clutches, crossbody bags and fanny packs (yes, they’re back and here to stay).

Q: Why did you choose to open in Downtown Brooklyn?
A: I have great friends who live here, and any time I would visit, I’d love the walking through the neighborhood—I love its blend of residential and retail.

Q: We love how the back door opens up to that gorgeous garden (it’s right next to The Invisible Dog Center). Do you utilize it?
A: We keep the back door open as long as weather permits, and love to have parties with our friends in the backyard.

Q: Which of your pieces most signals fall, for you?
