For Weekday Lunch That Feels More Like A Weekend Indulgence: Fatty Daddy Taco
These days, you can’t throw a stone without hitting a fast-casual restaurant. But, while some may feel gimmicky, Fatty Daddy Taco embodies the term literally. The food (fresh, inexpensive, filling) arrives quickly, and the space (small but accommodating, quiet but not precious) is easy like Sunday morning. Even on a Monday afternoon, which is sometimes just what you need when you’re not ready for the weekend to end. The owners, David and Lourdes O’Keefe, are no strangers to the neighborhood and to the restaurant business: Their first restaurant, pizzeria Layla Jones (named after their kids), opened in 2007 on Court Street. And the Smith Street Fatty Daddy Taco location is actually their third — the other two are located in Park Slope and Bay Ridge. What to order: Fresh guacamole, stewed chicken burritos the size of a newborn baby and grilled steak tacos on corn tortillas.
Where to sit: The two-tops by the open windows are prime for people-watching.
What to know: No WiFi, no reservations, no booze.
