How To Stay Cool And Look Hot? Bird Is The Word

Being inside cult-favorite womenswear boutique Bird is like being inside someone’s thoughtfully (and enviably) curated Brooklyn apartment: Bright light, fresh florals and thriving succulents abound. Beautiful, well-made pieces from local designers like Ulla Johnson, Caron Callahan and Maria Cornejo line the racks. Bird opened its first location in Park Slope back in 1999, and, according to owner Jen Mankins, the shop was tiny. Expanding the presence of the boutique made sense, and Jen’s reason for choosing Downtown Brooklyn is simple: “It’s really concentrated, with so much good food and culture and design.” We agree.

She also offered three outfits to wear to beat the summer heat while appearing chic and sophisticated. We’re sure to take her word on these, as well.

Cotton jumpsuits from Rachel Comey or Apiece Apart.
Cotton, silk or linen dresses from Bird’s in-house collection.
Wide-leg pants and a bodysuit.
