Go To Free Range Wine & Spirits For A Bottle Of Red, Stay For The Local Whiskey Tasting

Free Range Wine & Spirits is not your average wine shop. The selection of wine and spirits, for one, exceeds that of most such shops, and is especially heavy on rare wines and local spirits. The owner, Jack Chester, is a former rock critic turned wine blogger and shop owner, and will happily share his unconventional thoughts on just about everything as he pours you a taste of local whiskey.

WINTER IS COMING. WHAT ARE YOU DRINKING RIGHT NOW?
I’m not a seasonal drinker, but I am very much into an Oregon pinot noir at the moment.

FOOLPROOF WINE OR SPIRIT TO GIFT?
Don’t know if anything is foolproof, but Breuckelen Glorious Gin: Oaked is interesting. It’s a gin made from New York grains by a Brooklyn distillery, and aged in bourbon oak barrels.

WHY DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN?
The people, definitely. I get an amazing amount of high-quality nerds — most of them live in a five-block radius. I know them by name, and their dogs’ names, too. We usually talk about what they are having for dinner.
